The Opening Ceremony for the Contemporary Japanese Crafts Exhibition
The Opening Ceremony of “Contemporary Japanese Crafts Exhibition” was held on 7th June, 2010, at the Brunei Museum, attended by the Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama DR Hj Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri bin Begawan Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Seri Paduka Hj Awg Umar, Head of History Centre, Brunei History Centre, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Yang Mulia Awang Bantong bin Antaran, Director of the Museums Department, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, and His Excellency Mr. Noriki HIROSE, the Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam as well as a lot of distinguished guests and media. The opening ceremony was initiated by beating of the biggest Gong in Brunei Darussalam by the Chief Guest, and ended with applause from the guests and audience.
The Contemporary Japanese Crafts Exhibition, organised by the Japan Foundation, introduces 64 fine works which demonstrate the diversified sense of value and their highly complex developments in the long history. Those works are categorized into six groups; Ostentation, Quiet, Refinement, Crispness, Fine Detail, Deformation and Flowers and Birds.
The Japanese Government has made an effort to contribute to the “One Village, One Commodity Movement” in Brunei Darussalam by sending the Japanese experts in the area of glass crafts and textile crafts, and thus, this Exhibition is expected to promote and deepen the relationship between these two countries further through mutual understanding and respect towards crafts and art.
The Exhibition will be open until 27th June, 2010 at Brunei Museum in Jln Kota Batu, and the admission is free.
